Kentucky target Aaron Gordon had 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Oakland Soldiers to a 51-50 victory over Andrew Wiggins and CIA Bounce in the Peach Jam title game Sunday afternoon.
Gordon hadn’t played in nearly two months due to injuries, but he was able to lead the Soldiers to a perfect 8-0 record during the event in North Augusta, S.C.
The game ended in controversy. With CIA Bounce leading 50-49, Wiggins was called for fouling Soldiers guard Jabari Bird on a three-point attempt with 1.9 seconds remaining. Bird made two of three free throws to clinch the victory.
Wiggins led all scorers with 23 points and added nine rebounds. He also made nine of 10 free throws. Stanley Johnson, a UK recruit for 2014, had 15 points and six rebounds for the Soldiers.
Gordon said after Saturday night’s game the Kentucky was among his top three schools, along with Washington and Arizona. UK assistants Orlando Antigua and Kenny Payne joined Arizona Coach Sean Miller and Washington Coach Lorenzo Romar in the stands for Sunday’s title game. John Calipari saw Gordon and Wiggins play several times at the Peach Jam, but he was not in attendance for the final game.
