We’re less than a month away from Big Blue Madness, and fans wishing to attend will need to make plans to get their tickets sometime this week.

Tickets for the Oct. 12 event at Rupp Arena will be made available Saturday at 7 a.m. As always, the tickets will be free, but fans will have to be quick about it.

UK said last year’s event “sold out” in less than an hour.

The university has asked fans wishing to camp outside Memorial Coliseum not to do so until Wednesday at 7 a.m. Tickets will also be available through and There will be a small fee if you acquire tickets online. (Looks like $1.25 on Ticketmaster).

There will be a limit of four tickets “per person” if you go to Memorial Coliseum, and four tickets “per household” if you go the online route.

Big Blue Madness, which is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., marks the official start to the 2012-13 season and will feature both the men’s and women’s basketball teams. You can probably also expect a lengthy speech from John Calipari and some new dance moves from Matthew Mitchell.

Madness has long been a recruiting tool for Kentucky (and everyone else), and this year probably won’t be any different. 2013 forward Marcus Lee and 2014 guard JaQuan Lyle have already confirmed that they’ll be in Rupp that night, and more recruits will surely join them as the date nears.

Last year’s madness was attended by Archie Goodwin, Alex Poythress, Willie Cauley-Stein, Aaron and Andrew Harrison, Shabazz Muhammad and Dajuan Coleman.

  1. Will trade TWO Lower Level UK BBall tickets in section 28 Row G (7th row)to any game this season for 2 prime seats for BBMadness.

  2. Steve, how can you be contacted?

  3. Will Big Blue Madness be televised live ??? If so, what channels ??? THANKS

  4. Susan – TV info hasn’t been released yet. Last year, Madness was televised live locally by the UK Sports Network affiliates (WYMT-TV in Hazard; WKAG-TV in Hopkinsville; WSAZ-DT in Huntington; WKYT-TV in Lexington, WMYO-TV in Louisville). It was also available online via ESPN3 and I expect the same this year.

  5. Ben, thanks so much for your quick response. I got so busy at work that I didn’t get to check back until this morning. Wish I could be there but getting to see it live on TV is not too shabby !!!
