Julius Randle is down to six schools — and Duke isn’t one of them.
Randle’s high school, Prestonwood Christian Academy, tweeted Tuesday that the top 2013 recruit has narrowed his list to Kentucky, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, N.C. State and Kansas. Duke and North Carolina were among the schools cut from the list.
Prestonwood athletics official Vicki Morgan confirmed that the updated list was correct in a phone interview with the Herald-Leader. Randle’s mother, Carolyn Kyles, also confirmed the news via text message.
Many considered Duke to be UK’s main competition in the race to land Randle, who Rivals.com and 24/7 Sports ranks as the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2013. One of Randle’s best friends, five-star recruit Matt Jones, has already committed to the Blue Devils.
But Scout.com analyst Evan Daniels tweeted Tuesday that “it will be overhyped that Duke & UNC aren’t on Randle’s list. They weren’t considered favorites. My take … UK, Florida & Texas are in hunt.”
Randle made a trip to Kentucky for his first official visit, which corresponded with the school’s Alumni Game last month. He’s scheduled to take an official visit to Florida this weekend.
Florida’s Billy Donovan coached Randle over the summer on the USA’s gold-medal winning U-18 team at the FIBA Americas tournament in Brazil. Randle added Florida to his list of schools after playing for Donovan.
