The CBS Sports college basketball crew unloaded a ton of season preview information on readers Monday.

As you can imagine, UK was well-represented.

Nerlens Noel led three new Wildcats honored with individual accolades. Most of the panel picked UK to win the SEC (noted contrarian Doug Gottlieb was the only holdout). Gary Parrish even picked the Cats to repeat as national champions in April.

And then there’s CBS’ list of the Top 100 players in college basketball. Four Wildcats are on the list, and all of them are still waiting to play their first game for Kentucky.

5. Nerlens Noel
32. Alex Poythress
33. Archie Goodwin
62. Ryan Harrow

Missing from the list is sophomore Kyle Wiltjer, who will likely round out John Calipari’s starting five with the four players above.

Other notable names on the CBS list include:

1. Cody Zeller (Indiana)
3. Shabazz Muhammad (UCLA)
4. Isaiah Canaan (Murray State)
21. C.J. Leslie (N.C. State)
22. Gorgui Dieng (Louisville)
25. Jarnell Stokes (Tennessee)
29. Chane Behanan (Louisville)
34. Peyton Siva (Louisville)
42. Mark Lyons (Arizona)
47. Wayne Blackshear (Louisville)
57. Anthony Bennett (UNLV)
74. Gary Harris (Michigan State)
82. Keith Clanton (UCF)
94. Alex Oriakhi (Missouri)

  1. It is amazing to me at the time I was so focused on hoping to beat out UL for Montrez Harrell that I just did not pay close attention to the fact that Oriakhi was probably the missing piece to a repeat NC. Mike Pratt was screaming it to anyone who would listen. At the time I just assumed there was no way because of Cals pride he would take a Calhoune hold over that already beat him for a NC but I knew Alex and Coach O had enough of a relationship that it would get a peek. Now as we approach BBM I see Mizz line up and think oh hell they look a lot like an SEC version of UL. I have all the confidence in the world in our guys I just pray this is not the year that being NBA U bites us. One and Done is here and we are the best at it but as I look at CBB Transfers are now just as quick of a way to build a contender. Nothing wrong with taking great college players to they do not all have to be Future pros.

  2. Yes before SinceBirth or somebody else gets on hear and say Blah Blah Blah Julius Mays. I love that kid his is a true glue guy and we need him and I could see him with the ball in his hands as the clock winds down and we need a big shot. I was just saying he is no Oriakhi. I don’t want to hear well Nerlens doesn’t commit if we pick up Alex O. They are great friends played at the same school and AAU route and work out in the summers together so save it.

  3. This is the network whose writers rejoice when Kentucky loses and where they get all excited whenever they can find some rumor or innuendo that they can use in casting aspersions at Coach Cal. Why should we really care what they think?

  4. I think during the course of the year all of these guys for UK will move up in the rankings..My guess is the above mentioned young men will be 1st round draft picks…The 1st 3 are likely lottery picks…Witjer and Stein could also be 1st round and Mays will probably be a 2nd round pick..
