Karl Towns, the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2015, tweeted Wednesday that he will be in Lexington on Friday for Big Blue Madness.
“#BBN. Time to come back and see some old friends. Be there for big blue madness. See u there #kentuckywildcats,” he wrote.
Towns is already familiar with the area.
The 6-foot-11 center from New Jersey was one of the players on the John Calipari-coached Dominican national team that competed for a spot in the Olympics over the summer. That team spent a few days working out in Lexington and later played against Team USA in a nationally televised exhibition game.
Towns, who is being recruited by just about every major program in the country, took an unofficial visit to Florida last weekend. He’s expected to attend Duke’s midnight madness on Oct. 19.
Towns is the only player from the class of 2015 to have a scholarship offer from the University of Kentucky.
Other recruits expected to attend Big Blue Madness include UK commitments Andrew Harrison, Aaron Harrison and Derek Willis, 2013 forward Marcus Lee, and 2014 stars Cliff Alexander and JaQuan Lyle. Class of 2013 wing James Young, who is expected to commit to UK on Thursday, also could be in Lexington this weekend.
