The Southeastern Conference landed another elite basketball prospect Thursday with Jarell Martin’s commitment to LSU.
Martin, the No. 13 overall player in the class of 2013, became the 13th member of Scout.com’s Top 50 to commit to an SEC school. To put that in perspective, no other conference has more than six commitments from Top 50 players.
Going back to the implementation of the one-and-done rule in 2006, this is only the second time the SEC has attracted 10 or more Top 50 prospects (the conference also had 13 in 2011). Last year, the SEC had six Top 50 commitments, and four of those picked Kentucky.
And the conference isn’t done with this class.
SEC schools are still in the picture for at least eight of the 14 uncommitted prospects in Scout.com’s Top 50. Three of those recruits — Andrew Wiggins, Julius Randle and Aaron Gordon — are UK targets.
