WHEELING, W.Va — Basketball fans in the state of Kentucky could get a chance to see UK commitment Dakari Johnson and top UK target Andrew Wiggins in one place later this season.
Montverde Academy Coach Kevin Boyle said Saturday that his team is in talks to play Huntington Prep at Freedom Hall in Louisville on March 2 or 3.
Boyle said the deal was close to done.
“I think it’s pretty sure,” he said. “Until we get the contact in the mail, you never know.”
Montverde Academy features Johnson, Florida signee Kasey Hill and 2014 five-star guard D’Angelo Russell, a Louisville native who has an offer from the Cardinals and has also expressed interest in Kentucky. ESPN ranks Montverde as the No. 1 team in the country.
Huntington Prep includes Wiggins, the No. 1 player in high school basketball, and several other Division I signees. The Express were ranked No. 3 in the country before losing their first game of the season Friday night against Prime Prep (Texas).
As of now, neither school has any games scheduled in the state for the rest of the season.
