Friday’s roundup: Willis has big game in Missouri

UK signee Derek Willis had 19 points and nine rebounds in Bullitt East’s 68-58 victory over Little Rock Hall (Ark.) on Friday night at the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions in Springfield, Mo.

Willis added six assists and six blocked shots for the Chargers, who improved to 15-4 on the season. Elliot Young had 20 points and seven rebounds, and Rusty Troutman chipped in with 14 points for Bullitt East.

Arkansas signee Bobby Portis led Little Rock Hall with 18 points and eight rebounds. Portis, a 6-foot-9 forward ranked by ESPN as the No. 11 overall senior in the country, was held to just three points in the first half.

Bullitt East will play Hillcrest (Mo.) on Saturday.

Montverde (Fla.) 78, Nixa (Mo.) 61: UK commitment Dakari Johnson had 18 points and seven rebounds in limited action during Friday’s rout in the the semifinals of the Bass Pro tournament in Springfield, Mo.

Johnson played just 16 minutes, going 8-for-11 from the field with two assists. Junior guard D’Angelo Russell, a UK recruit, did not score in 14 minutes. He missed all three of his field-goal attempts.

Montverde will play Paul IV (Va.) in Saturday night’s championship game, which will be shown live at 9:30 p.m. ET on the CBS College Network.

La Lumiere (Ind.) 46, Huntington Prep (W.Va.) 35: Andrew Wiggins was held to 11 points and five rebounds as the Express suffered their second loss of the season Friday in Kettering, Ohio.

Wiggins was 3-for-8 from the floor and 5-for-9 from the free-throw line in 26 minutes on the court. His point total was a season low.

Sophomore forward Montaque Gill-Caesar, also a UK target, had just two points and two rebounds for the Express (18-2).

La Lumiere is No. 12 in the country in the latest ESPN power rankings.

Rochester (Mich.) 68, Ferndale (Mich.) 53: James Young bounced back from his worst performance of the season to finish with 28 points and 15 rebounds Friday night.

The UK signee scored just three points in Rochester’s loss last Friday while suffering from flu-like symptoms. Throwing out that game, Young has averaged 29.3 points over his last three contests.

Deer Valley (Calif.) 75, Antioch (Calif.) 12: Marcus Lee played sparingly in Deer Valley’s rout of a city opponent Friday night. The UK signee had six points, 11 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals. He made all three of his field-goal attempts.

Deer Valley held Antioch scoreless in the first quarter and led 56-3 at halftime.

Travis (Texas) 51, Elkins (Texas) 46: With Andrew Harrison out of the lineup again Friday, Aaron Harrison stepped up with 29 points to lead the Tigers to their fifth win in six games.

Archbishop Mitty (Calif.) 69, Sacred Heart (Calif.) 54: Aaron Gordon had 24 points and 19 rebounds to lead Mitty to a victory Friday night.
