Dakari Johnson wasn’t on the court for the end of Montverde Academy’s first loss Saturday night.

The UK commitment fouled out less than a minute into overtime, and national No. 1 Montverde (Fla.) was defeated by Paul IV (Va.), 69-67, in the title game of the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions in Springfield, Mo.

Johnson finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds, seven on the offensive boards, before fouling out with 3:05 left in the extra period.

Montverde was 18-0 coming into the game, and the Eagles might have been looking ahead to Monday’s nationally televised matchup with unbeaten Findlay Prep, which is No. 2 in the latest ESPN power rankings. But Paul IV (12-4) is a perennial D.C.-area power and had already defeated Oak Hill Academy earlier in the season.

Montverde led by 10 points midway through the fourth quarter, but Paul IV fought back and tied it on two free throws with 28 seconds left in regulation. Florida signee Kasey Hill missed a jumper in the final seconds to send the game to overtime.

Paul IV’s Kevin Dorsey hit a shot with just seconds left in OT after the Panthers dribbled around for nearly a minute to ensure they would get the last shot.

Junior guard D’Angelo Russell, a UK recruiting target, had seven points, seven assists and three steals for Montverde. Russell was held scoreless in Friday night’s victory.

The Montverde-Findlay Prep game will be shown live on ESPNU at 4 p.m. Sunday.
