Huntington Prep forward Andrew Wiggins was named the 2013 Naismith high school player of the year Monday.
Wiggins, a UK recruiting target, is averaging 23.6 points, 11.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 3.4 steals and 2.1 blocks per game so far this season. The other two finalists were Chicago forward Jabari Parker and San Jose forward Aaron Gordon, also a UK target.
Wiggins will be given the award at a ceremony on March 19 in Atlanta.
The 6-foot-8 senior from Toronto has narrowed his list of schools to Kentucky, Florida State, North Carolina and Kansas. He will take his official visit to UK on Wednesday, and will follow that with trips to Kansas and UNC. He visited Florida State earlier this season.
The Naismith player of the year honor was first awarded in 1987. UCLA forward Shabazz Muhammad was last year’s recipient.
