Holmes sophomore point guard James “Beetle” Bolden received a scholarship offer from Purdue on Thursday, according to his high school coach.
Bolden, who was a breakout star of last month’s Sweet Sixteen, now has offers from Purdue, Xavier and Ohio University. He got the Ohio U offer earlier this week.
The 5-foot-11 guard was in West Lafayette on Thursday to take an unofficial visit to Purdue. He received the offer during that visit, Holmes Coach Jason Booher said.
Booher told the Herald-Leader that Bolden plans to visit Cincinnati on Tuesday and hopes to make an unofficial visit to Kentucky sometime in the next couple of weeks. Butler and Iowa State are among the other schools that have expressed early interest.
Bolden had 29 points, 13 rebounds and made five of nine three-point attempts in Holmes’ 65-61 loss to Madison Central in the Sweet Sixteen quarterfinals in Rupp Arena. UK coaches John Calipari and Orlando Antigua were in attendance for that game and waited outside the Holmes locker room to talk to Booher afterward.
Earlier in the Sweet Sixteen, Bolden had referred to Kentucky as his “dream college” and said he has always been a fan of the Wildcats.
Bolden will play this spring and summer with the Lexington-based Travelers Basketball club. The Travelers start their EYBL schedule next weekend in Los Angeles.
