Matt Elam — one of UK football’s biggest recruiting targets — visited Ohio State on Thursday and tweeted a photo of him standing next to Buckeyes Coach Urban Meyer.

The class of 2014 defensive tackle from John Hardin High School is considered by Rivals.com to be the No. 2 prospect in the state behind Conner quarterback Drew Barker, who has already committed to Kentucky.

Elam — a 6-foot-6, 350-pounder — was elevated to five-star status earlier this week by 24/7 Sports, which ranks him as the No. 10 overall player in the class of 2014. He also has offers from Alabama and Notre Dame, among others. Elam attended Bama’s camp in Tuscaloosa earlier this spring and will take a visit to Notre Dame on Monday.

He plans to announce his college decision in January.

  1. Matt. have all the fun you want, just sign with Ky. GO CATS!!!

  2. Dude, Your color is blue. Be a part of the revolution in UK football by leading the parade, not a face in the crowd at one of the old guard schools.

  3. Our next candidate for BMOC. Just the fact we’re actually challenging the likes of Urban Myer for top recruits is a huge improvement. This is where the competition begins. You don’t win some here, you won’t be winning much later on.

Our guys will still be a bit short-handed this season but they could surprise some folks. At least give fans and recruits a taste of what could be when we get the right people in place.

  4. Matt, I’m holding my breath until January. I wish we didn’t have to wait that long. But you are a young guy and you need to make the best decision for your future. So visit all the schools you want, but remember one thing: You can be a part of something big at Kentucky. The beginning, finally, for UK to be competitive in the SEC. Not just competitive; but to actually win some big games and actually contend for an SEC title. That would be wonderful and with you and Drew and all the other fantastic 2014 commits, well, the possibilities are endless. You know how much you will be loved by the BBN unconditionally. Please stay “home” and get this program to winning! Thanks and GO CATS!
