Highly touted shooting guard Devin Booker announced his top five schools Monday night.
The Class of 2014 prospect from Moss Point, Miss., is considering Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri and Florida. Booker lived in Michigan before moving to Mississippi and has already taken several unofficial visits to both Michigan and Michigan State. His father, Melvin Booker, was a standout player at Missouri in the the early 1990s.
Duke, North Carolina and Mississippi State are among the other schools that had previously been mentioned in connection with the 6-foot-4 prospect.
Earlier Monday, Scout.com reported that Booker has set official visits for UK, Michigan, Michigan State and Missouri. He said he wasn’t sure if he’d take an official visit to Florida.
Booker will be in Lexington for Big Blue Madness in October. He will also play in the Marshall County Hoop Fest in Benton, Ky., in December.
John Calipari visited Booker at his high school in April. The UK coach extended a scholarship offer during that trip.
“He just said that a lot of pressure comes with playing at Kentucky,” Booker said a few days later. “He said Big Blue Nation are obviously wild, and if you have a bad game they’re going to get on you. But that’s the kind of pressure I like.”
Booker is planning to make a college decision this fall and sign with a school in November.
He is considered a top-50 national recruit by ESPN (16th), Rivals (27th), 24/7 Sports (29th) and Scout.com (31st).
