UK freshman James Young has arrived in Lexington, according to one of his childhood friends from Michigan.

Evan Mahone posted a photo to Instagram of Young shooting at the Joe Craft Center and another of he and the UK forward on campus Saturday night. Mahone was also one of Young’s high school teammates.

Young was one of three UK freshmen who did not show up for summer classes in Lexington, which led to speculation about his eligibility for the 2013-14 season. His godfather (who is also Evan Mahone’s father) and high school coach both told the Herald-Leader earlier this month that there were no problems and the McDonald’s All-American would be on campus in time for the fall semester. Young eliminated all doubt when he posted a picture of his official UK acceptance letter last week.

Andrew and Aaron Harrison — the other two UK freshmen who missed summer school — are also on campus. Classes start Wednesday.

  1. Ben, with Marcus smart and Andrew Harrison both going pro after this season I think Dante exum does not enter draft. Also mudiay will never be seen by media or no one next year and people will question the completion he went up against and his stock will drop a lot. Also tyus jones won’t be a high draft pick. Exum can come here next year and be the first point guard drafted next year. Do you think Cal will make a push for exum and can we get him?

  2. If Exum expresses more interest in college, I think Cal will recruit him hard. But I still think he’ll be in the 2014 draft. Those that have seen him play say he’s better than Smart and Harrison and would be the No. 1 point guard selected in next year’s draft. My guess is he’ll be in the NBA for the 2014-15 season.

  3. Ben, I agree about Exum never seeing a college court. He would be a game changer for sure if he were to choose to play CBB but that’s a long shot in my book. With Mudiay, I’m not as surprised as others as to his choice of SMU. It’s close to home, faith is very important to him and SMU is well, SMU. Brown does have ties to the NBA after all and finally his brother will be at SMU next year as well.

  4. Ben, I am curious about your thoughts on Aaron Harrison arter the upcoming season. Do you think he will stay another year, or opt to test the draft gurus predictions?

  5. I think both Harrisons will go pro after their freshman season. I would be very surprised if one left and one stayed. Andrew could be a top-5 pick. As long as Aaron is projected as a first-rounder come draft time, which he definitely should be, I think both leave.
