Top UK basketball target Malik Newman is still the best player in the Class of 2015, according to the new rankings from 247Sports.

National analyst Jerry Meyer released his updated list Tuesday with Newman — a 6-foot-3 combo guard from Mississippi — in the top spot. Newman is one of six players from the class with a UK scholarship offer. The Cats are considered one of the early favorites in his recruitment.

UK has been tied to every player in the 247Sports’ top 10. Newman is followed in the top 5 by African big man Cheick Diallo, Las Vegas center Stephen Zimmerman, California guard Tyler Dorsey and Ohio power forward Carlton Bragg. The rest of the top 10 includes California post player Ivan Rabb, Australian wing Ben Simmons, Georgia forward Jaylen Brown, Chicago guard Charles Matthews and Haitian big man Skal Labissiere.

Of those players, UK has offered Newman, Zimmerman, Matthews and Labissiere. The Cats have also extended scholarship offers to Luke Kennard (16th) and Derrick Jones (17th).

Three players from the state of Kentucky were listed in the new rankings: Trinity’s Ray Spalding (107th), Knott Central’s Camron Justice (117th) and Holmes’ Beetle Bolden (118th). All three of those prospects played for the Kentucky Travelers EYBL team over the summer.

  1. Have to get Newman,Kennard and Mathrews. That would settle the UK backcourt in, as the best in the country again. Getting Jones and Zimmerman would fill out the rest of the starting 5.
