Top Kentucky basketball target Malik Newman is on his way to becoming the unanimous No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2015.
Scout.com updated its 2015 rankings Wednesday, and Newman overtook fellow UK recruit Stephen Zimmerman for the No. 1 spot. The 6-foot-3 guard from Mississippi maintained his No. 1 position in the 247Sports rankings earlier this week. Rivals.com also has Newman at No. 1, while ESPN ranks him No. 2.
Newman — considered one of the best scorers in the country regardless of class — is one of six 2015 prospects who has received a scholarship offer from Kentucky.
Zimmerman — a 7-footer from Las Vegas — moved back one spot to No. 2 overall. He was followed by Milwaukee center Diamond Stone, California post player Ivan Rabb and Haitian big man Skal Labissiere, who plays his high school ball near Memphis.
Rounding out the top 10 were African power forward Cheick Diallo, California guard Tyler Dorsey, Australian wing Ben Simmons, Ohio forward Carlton Bragg and Georgia wing Jaylen Brown.
Every player in the top 10 is uncommitted, and UK is involved in all of their recruitments.
Kentucky has offered Newman, Zimmerman, Labissiere, Charles Matthews (12th), Derrick Jones (14th) and Luke Kennard (15th).
There were no Kentuckians in the Scout.com Top 100.
