CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. — Conner quarterback Drew Barker started his senior season off on a high note Saturday, running for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage and combining for six scores in the first half.
Barker threw for four touchdowns, ran for two and totaled nearly 400 yards of offense in Conner’s 40-7 victory over Boone County at Thomas More College. The game was stopped at halftime due to extreme heat. It was ruled an official game despite the stoppage.
Barker, who has committed to play for UK, ran 75 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage to give the Cougars a 7-0 lead 13 seconds into the game. Barker’s second play of the contest was an 80-yard touchdown run to put Conner up 13-0 with 8:59 left in the first quarter.
The 6-foot-4 quarterback added passing touchdowns of 49, 65, 63 and 39 yards to put the Cougars ahead 40-0 late in the second quarter. Boone County scored a touchdown with 1:58 left in the half to set the final tally.
Barker was 8-for-11 passing for 235 yards and four touchdowns. He ran four times for 162 yards and two touchdowns.
