Class of 2014 forward Abdul Malik Abu committed to N.C. State on Saturday.

Abdul Malik Abu, who was briefly on UK’s radar this summer, announced his commitment to N.C. State on Saturday.

Abu — a 6-foot-8 power forward — was also considering Florida, UConn and Providence. John Calipari reached out to him earlier this summer and the UK coaching staff scouted him during the July recruiting period, but he never got an offer from the Wildcats.

Scout.com ranks Abu as the No. 51 overall prospect in the Class of 2014.

New Jersey center Karl Towns Jr. is UK’s only commitment so far from the Class of 2014.

Kentucky has extended offers to two power forwards from the class — five-star prospects Trey Lyles and Cliff Alexander. Lyles will use an official visit for a trip to Big Blue Madness on Oct. 18.
