One day after entertaining one of his top point guard recruits, John Calipari will apparently fly to Minnesota to meet with another.
Kentucky has set an in-home visit with five-star prospect Tyus Jones for Tuesday, according to Minnesota-based reporter Ryan James. Chicago-area point guard Tyler Ulis will be on UK’s campus for his official visit Monday night.
Jones and Ulis are the only two point guards from the Class of 2014 with scholarship offers from Kentucky.
James also reported that Duke will have an in-home visit with Jones on Monday, Minnesota on Tuesday, Kansas on Wednesday and Baylor sometime later this week. The 6-foot-1 recruit took an official visit to Baylor last weekend and has already scheduled official visits with UK, Duke and Kansas.
The UK trip is set for Sept. 27.
Monday is the first day that college coaches can perform in-home visits with recruits.
Calipari was the only coach on Jones’ list that did not go to Minnesota for an in-home visit before the end of the spring recruiting period.
“I was a little bit (surprised),” Jones said in April. “Just because every other school came in.”
Jones pointed out that Calipari came to see him play in the state tournament the day after UK’s season ended with an NIT loss to Robert Morris.
“It meant a lot to me,” Jones said of that visit. “It was good to see him at my game, especially after them ending their season. It shows a lot that he would show up the next morning. All the coaches are very busy and they all have hectic schedules, so any time they can come up and visit you, it’s a good feeling.”
Scout.com ranks Jones as the No. 4 overall prospect in the Class of 2014.
