Puerto Rico defeated the Orlando Antigua-coached Dominican national team 79-67 Tuesday night in the semifinals of the FIBA Americans basketball tournament.
The Dominicans will play Argentina on Wednesday in the bronze-medal game.
Karl Towns Jr. had four points and two rebounds in 12-plus minutes off the bench Tuesday. Towns — a 7-footer from New Jersey — is UK’s only commitment in the Class of 2014.
Former UK forward Eloy Vargas started for the Dominicans and finished with seven points and six rebounds.
Antigua’s squad qualified for the 2014 FIBA World Cup with its performance in this tournament. It’s the first time since 1978 that the Dominican Republic will be represented in the World Cup, which will be played next summer in Spain.
