Michael Cage Jr. — a post player in the Class of 2016 — received a scholarship offer from Kentucky on Thursday, according to tweets from his father and one of his high-profile teammates.
John Calipari was at Mater Dei High School in California to visit Stanley Johnson. The UK coach apparently extended an offer to Cage Jr. while he was there. The 2016 prospect is the son of former NBA center Michael Cage, who was coached by Calipari for one season with the New Jersey Nets.
247Sports ranks Cage Jr. as the No. 19 overall prospect in the class. He also has reported offers from UCLA, Gonzaga, Washington and San Diego State, his father’s alma mater. Michael Cage Sr. is an assistant coach at Mater Dei. The bio on his website says he is “good friends” with Calipari.
Shout out to Coach Cal and Kentucky basketball offering MJ Cage today thanks for recognizing the skills and potential he will keep working!
