UK recruit Devin Booker is one of the top shooting guards in the Class of 2014.

One of UK’s top recruiting targets in the Class of 2014 has set a decision date.

Mississippi shooting guard Devin Booker is planning to announce his college choice Oct. 31 during a ceremony at his high school, Moss Point Coach Micoe Cotton told the Herald-Leader on Wednesday night.

Booker took an official visit to UK last month. He’s planning to visit Michigan this weekend and Missouri later this month. His father, Melvin Booker, was a standout player at Missouri in the early 1990s. He’s also taken an official visit to Michigan State.

Booker has taken several unofficial visits to Michigan, Michigan State and Missouri. His trip to Lexington last month was the first time he had been on UK’s campus.

Cotton said Florida is no longer involved in the recruitment.

Scout.com ranks Booker as the No. 30 overall prospect in the Class of 2014.

Booker is close friends with point guard Tyler Ulis, who committed to play for Kentucky last month. Ulis told the Herald-Leader recently that he’s actively recruiting Booker to join him in Lexington next season.

“We actually talk about it a lot,” Ulis said. “He’s still going to take some visits though, because he wants to see what he wants to do. He’s not really sure yet. But we’ve actually talked a lot. We talk almost every day now.

“I’m trying to get him to come with me. He just said, ‘I don’t know yet.’”

Ulis and New Jersey center Karl Towns are UK’s only two commitments from the Class of 2014.

  1. Hey Ben, do you since Booker made a decision date before his official visit to Michigan that that means he is UK bound?

  2. Not necessarily. He has already visited Michigan several times and has also seen Missouri. He’s very familiar with all four schools on his list. Plan was always to announce in time for November signing period.

  3. how would you rank the four schools in relation to bookers speculated decision? Also being that UK kinda came late to the party in comparison to the other schools for recruiting booker, is that benefit or or possible deterrent? And how much influence does melvin have in reference to missouri?

  4. which school do you think has the greatest chance of landing Booker and why? And do you think that him and Ulis are such good friends that that increases his chance of coming to Kentucky?

  5. CJ- Kentucky seems to have the most momentum in Booker’s recruitment. Wouldn’t be a complete shock to see him land at any of the four schools on his list, but I’d have to consider UK the favorite as of now.

Marc- UK being the last of the finalists to recruit him will not have a negative effect, in my opinion. His father is playing a major role in his development and recruitment, but all involved have said that the decision will be Devin’s. No one is going to push him anywhere he doesn’t want to go.
