James Blackmon Jr. tweeted Wednesday night that his college decision is “coming soon.”

The Class of 2014 basketball recruit is scheduled to take his official visit to Kentucky on Oct. 18 for Big Blue Madness. He has already taken an unofficial visit to the campus. His father, James Blackmon, played for the Wildcats in the 1980s.

Michigan is the only school that Blackmon Jr. has officially visited so far. Wolverines Coach John Beilein returned the favor by visiting Blackmon on Wednesday.

Blackmon’s tweet was accompanied by a graphic that included the logos of Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Kansas and Indiana. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Marion, Ind., was committed to the Hoosiers for nearly three years before backing off that pledge in August.

Kentucky offered Blackmon a scholarship the day after his decommitment from Indiana.

Several other schools have been linked to his recruitment, including Louisville, North Carolina and Florida. But none of those schools were referenced in his tweet Wednesday night.

ESPN ranks Blackmon as the No. 19 overall prospect in the Class of 2014.

  1. I was fixing to get tickets to big blue madness and I was wondering which recruits are planning are going?

  2. As of now, the Class of 2014 recruits planning to be there are Blackmon, Trey Lyles, Kelly Oubre and Stanley Johnson. That list could grow.

  3. Hey Ben, do you think since Blackmon said his commitment would be ‘coming soon’ and he said this BEFORE BBM this means he is headed to Michigan?

  4. He met with Michigan Coach John Beilein tonight. But, as far as I know, he still plans to attend Big Blue Madness and he’s already been on UK’s campus once recently. The thinking has always been that he would commit somewhere before November signing period.
