What had been clear for weeks became official Wednesday. Jahlil Okafor is no longer considering Kentucky.

The 7-footer from Chicago will announce his college decision Friday during ESPNU’s recruiting special, which begins at 4 p.m. An ESPN press release Wednesday said that Okafor will choose either Duke or Kansas, meaning he has officially cut UK and Baylor from consideration.

Okafor will also announce “simultaneously” with five-star point guard Tyus Jones, who has also narrowed his list to Duke and Kansas. The two players are close friends and have long said they plan to play at the same school.

ESPN, Scout and Rivals all rank Okafor as the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2014.

  1. If u seen the same game I seen Kansas has big man and have guard play. But if you look at duke they dont have a big man or guard play. So if they want to start even though they will start on either team go to duke. Cos at least IF J. Parker comes back omg that will push Duke to be 2015 ncaa champs.

    A Duke Fan

  2. Having the opportunity to start would be huge advantage in decision making. The chance for passing time right from the start should weigh heavily in the decision making.

  3. If having a spot open that you don’t have to compete for is what they are looking for then I guess your logic would prove out.

Yes – Kansas is deep – -really deep in big men and there is a reason for it. Big Man U.

If they look at the bigs KU has helped develop and put in the league over the last 5 years and want to go to a University to learn, be challenged and have to earn a spot over other talented big men – (not be given a spot), – then maybe KU is the choice.

    We will see.

  4. Yes, Kansas has had Bigs that went undrafted and they developed Whitey and got him drafted 39th after 4 years developing!

  5. KU has developed bigs like crazy but they also lost Danny Manning as a coach.

  6. these guys should go where they will be needed.and duke needs a big man, kansas does not.

  7. I just can’t believe Duke & Kansas are recruiting one & done players (snicker)
