HAZARD — UK assistant coach Orlando Antigua made the trip to Perry Central High School on Saturday night to check out five-star recruit Montaque Gill-Caesar.
Gill-Caesar scored 13 points and helped lead Huntington Prep to a 64-43 victory over St. Louis Christian (Mo.) in the final game of the Kentucky Elite Shootout. The 6-foot-6 small forward is currently a member of the Class of 2015, but he is considering reclassifying to 2014, which would make him eligible to play college basketball next season.
Kentucky is looking to add at least two more players to its 2014 recruiting class, and Gill-Caesar has emerged as a top priority. Antigua was there to watch him play just six days after the Huntington Prep star visited UK for the Cats’ victory over Northern Kentucky in Rupp Arena.
Gill-Caesar told the Herald-Leader on Friday that he has no timetable for a decision on reclassification.
Junior power forward Thomas Bryant led Huntington Prep with 16 points. The 6-foot-10 prospect is considered one of the top 15 players in the Class of 2015 and has also received interest from Kentucky.
Uncommitted senior JaQuan Lyle added 15 points, Providence signee Jalen Lindsey had nine and Gonzaga signee Josh Perkins finished with six points after missing much of the first half due to foul trouble.
Huntington Prep (4-0) will play Ezell Harding (Tenn.) at Frankfort High School on Sunday at 2 p.m.
