UK recruit Luke Kennard’s season is off to a fast start.
The Class of 2015 prospect recorded a triple-double and hit five three-pointers to help Franklin (Ohio) defeat Waynesville 84-60 in Saturday night’s season opener.
Franklin Coach Brian Bales told the Herald-Leader that Kennard had 34 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard was 12-for-20 from the field, 5-for-10 on three-pointers and made five of six free throws. He also had two steals and one block, Bales said.
Kennard has visited UK five times since receiving a scholarship offer from Coach John Calipari in July. Two of those visits were for home basketball games in Rupp Arena, including the Cats’ victory last week over Eastern Michigan.
Franklin is scheduled to face Taylor County in the King of the Bluegrass Showcase at Fairdale High School in Louisville later this season. That game would pit Kennard against sophomore guard Quentin Goodin, who is already getting interest from the UK coaching staff. The contest is tentatively slated for Feb. 1, though the full schedule for the two-day event is still being finalized.
Scout.com ranks Kennard as the No. 15 overall prospect in the Class of 2015. He also has offers from Duke, North Carolina, Louisville, Michigan State, Ohio State and Michigan, among others.
