BENTON — Devin Booker’s first game in the state of Kentucky was one to remember.
The UK signee scored a game-high 40 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but his Moss Point (Miss.) squad fell 92-71 to No. 1-ranked Ballard on Saturday night at the Marshall County Hoop Fest.
Booker was 9-for-18 from the field and made 20 of 24 free-throw attempts. He had only two turnovers despite having the ball in his hands for much of the game against Ballard’s high-pressure defense.
Moss Point Micoe Cotton pulled Booker out of the game with 1:32 left, and the pro-UK Hoop Fest crowd gave him a standing ovation.
With all eyes on Booker, Butler signee Kelan Martin turned in an epic performance for Ballard. The Bruins big man finished with 30 points and 12 rebounds to earn game MVP honors. U of L signee Quentin Snider added 18 points and nine assists, including several dazzling passes that led to Bruins baskets in the second half.
