BENTON — With John Calipari and two UK assistants looking on, Trey Lyles scored 22 points and led Arsenal Tech to a 54-51 victory over national powerhouse Huntington Prep.
The victory capped a busy day for the UK signee at the Marshall County Hoop Fest. Earlier Saturday, he scored 30 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in Arsenal Tech’s 87-84 overtime victory over Ballard, the No. 1 team in the state of Kentucky.
Huntington Prep is considered one of the two or three best teams in the nation, and the Irish led for much of the game. But Lyles helped spark Arsenal Tech’s second-half comeback by staying busy in the paint against Huntington Prep’s highly touted rotation of frontcourt players.
Lyles added 14 rebounds and was 8-for-17 from the field. On his way off the court, he shook hands and spoke briefly with Calipari. UK assistant coaches Orlando Antigua and Kenny Payne were also in attendance, as was fellow UK signee Devin Booker.
UK target Montaque Gill-Caesar scored five points on 2-for-8 shooting for Huntington Prep.
