UK’s Matthews ranked No. 15 in new Rivals Top 150

Gary Middendorf | Sun-Times Media has ranked UK commitment Charles Matthews at No. 15 on its updated list of the top 150 basketball prospects in the class of 2015, which was released Wednesday.

Matthews — UK’s lone commitment for 2015 — was ranked No. 11 in the previous update. The Chicago guard will be eligible to sign with the Wildcats in November.

Top UK recruiting target Malik Newman remains the No. 1 overall prospect in the class of 2015, according to Rivals. Newman — a 6-foot-4 guard from Mississippi — is also ranked No. 1 by 247Sports. ESPN and have him No. 2 in the class.

Newman is followed by UK targets Ivan Rabb, Diamond Stone and Stephen Zimmerman. Louisiana State commitment Ben Simmons — at No. 5 — is the highest ranked 2015 prospect who has already committed to a school.

Other players with UK scholarship offers in the new Rivals 150 are Skal Labissiere (6th), Carlton Bragg (10th) and Derrick Jones (25th). Montaque Gill-Caesar, who UK is recruiting as a possible 2014 addition, is ranked No. 22. Gill-Caesar intends to play AAU ball this spring and summer before making a decision on reclassification.

Ohio star Luke Kennard — a UK target until he committed to Duke on Monday night — is ranked No. 13 overall.

Trinity’s Ray Spalding (No. 70) and Knott Central’s Camron Justice (No. 132) are the only two Kentuckians on the list. Spalding has several scholarship offers and is being evaluated by UK and Louisville. Justice is concentrating on Vanderbilt, Gonzaga, Boston College and Butler, among others.
