Louisville announced Tuesday that 7-foot-1 center Anas Osama Mahmoud has signed with the school after committing earlier this year.
The Egyptian native played last season at West Oaks Academy in Orlando, Fla., where he averaged 13.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.1 blocked shots a game. ESPN ranks him as the No. 99 overall prospect in the class of 2014.
“Anas is an extremely versatile seven-footer,” Coach Rick Pitino said in a statement. “He is a very skilled athlete who is a very good scorer and passer. His only weakness is strength. We will base a consideration of redshirting him on how quickly he can gain necessary strength to be effective. We’re delighted to have Anas at the University of Louisville.”
Mahmoud (his full name is pronounced AH-nahs o-SAW-mah mah-MOOD) is listed at 205 pounds in the Louisville news release.
He joins a recruiting class that already included Shaqquan Aaron, Jaylen Johnson, Chinanu Onuaku, Quentin Snider and Matz Stockman.
