UK freshman Julius Randle announced Tuesday that he will enter the NBA Draft after one season in Lexington.
The news was expected, and Randle joined fellow freshman James Young as the only two UK underclassmen who have declared for the draft. They’re also the only two UK players who were included in Chad Ford’s latest mock draft, which was released on ESPN.com Tuesday morning.
Ford projects that Randle will go with the No. 6 overall pick to the Los Angeles Lakers and Young will head to the Atlanta Hawks at No. 15 overall.
Four other UK players have not yet publicly announced their plans. Alex Poythress and Dakari Johnson met with UK Coach John Calipari on Monday, and Andrew and Aaron Harrison were scheduled to have their final meeting with Calipari on Tuesday.
Those four players have until Sunday night to declare for the draft, but there’s a growing sense around the UK program that Randle and Young will be the only players who leave this year.
DraftExpress.com is also projecting Randle and Young as the only UK players in this year’s draft.
The order for the draft lottery will be determined May 20. The draft itself is set for June 26.
