Cheick Diallo received a scholarship offer from Kentucky on Tuesday.
Diallo — a 6-foot-9 post player — is considered a top-10 overall prospect in the class of 2015 by every major recruiting service. 247Sports ranks him the highest at No. 3 overall.
Pittsburgh had recently been considered the favorite in Diallo’s recruitment, primarily due to the relationship the star player had developed with former Panthers assistant coach Barry “Slice” Rohrssen, who was recently hired as an assistant at UK.
Scout.com analyst Evan Daniels told the Herald-Leader last month that the addition of Rohrssen would likely help UK’s recruitment of Diallo.
“I don’t think there’s any question about it,” Daniels said. “He’s a guy that Slice clearly has developed a relationship with. I’m sure that he will continue that at Kentucky. … They’ll be firmly in the mix with him.”
Rohrssen and UK Coach John Calipari watched Diallo during the first session of the Nike EYBL circuit a couple of weeks ago.
Kansas, Arizona, Florida and Louisville are among the other schools that have offered Diallo, a native of Mali who plays for a high school in Centereach, N.Y.
