The Kentucky football program picked up a commitment Thursday morning from one of its top targets in the class of 2015.

Ohio linebacker Jordan Jones joined the Wildcats’ recruiting class nearly four months after UK became the first school to offer him a scholarship.

Jones, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound prospect, has picked up several offers since then. Oklahoma, Miami, Nebraska, Michigan State and West Virginia were among the schools to extend offers, and several other top programs had been evaluating Jones.

The relationship that UK built with him early in the recruitment paid off.

Jones plays for Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, Ohio — the alma mater of UK Coach Mark Stoops and recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow, who was the primary recruiter. Jones led Mooney with 123 tackles as a junior, adding 10 sacks and five forced fumbles.

He is rated a three-star prospect by Scout.com and 247Sports, and he has the potential to be a four-star recruit by the time players from the class of 2015 are allowed to sign with schools in February.

Jones joins Warren East standout Eli Brown as the second linebacker in UK’s class. The two players were among the most coveted by the Wildcats coaching staff in this recruiting cycle. Brown is UK’s highest-ranked commitment during Stoops’ tenure, according to Rivals, and Jones is a player who the UK coaches pinpointed early in the process as one of their top 2015 targets.

Cardinal Mooney running back C.J. Amill also is a UK target for 2015. He visited Lexington for last month’s Blue-White Spring Game.

Kentucky now has eight commitments for the class of 2015. Jones and Brown are the only defensive players in that group.
