A Southeastern Conference basketball commitment is the No. 1 player in the class of 2015, according to one recruiting service, but he’s not going to Kentucky.
Future 150 released its new rankings Wednesday, and LSU recruit Ben Simmons jumped to the No. 1 spot. Simmons, a native of Australia, will be a senior at prep powerhouse Montverde Academy in Florida this fall.
Simmons, a 6-foot-8 forward, is the No. 2 overall player in the new rankings from Scout.com, 247Sports and ESPN.
UK’s lone commitment for the class of 2015, Chicago guard Charles Matthews, is No. 35 overall in the new Future 150 rankings. He fell 25 spots from his previous position at No. 10. Matthews has experienced similar drops in other national rankings over the past few weeks.
Malik Newman, Ivan Rabb, Diamond Stone and Chase Jeter followed Simmons to round out the top five. Newman and Rabb both have scholarship offers from Kentucky.
The rest of the top 10 includes Skal Labissiere at No. 6, followed by Stephen Zimmerman, Jaylen Brown, Cheick Diallo and Syracuse commitment Malachi Richardson. Labissiere, Zimmerman, Brown and Diallo all have scholarship offers from UK.
The other two players in the class of 2015 with confirmed scholarship offers from the Wildcats are Carlton Bragg (No. 12) and Derrick Jones (No. 29).
Trinity forward Ray Spalding is the only Kentuckian in the new Top 150. Spalding is ranked No. 72 overall.
