High school basketball star Thon Maker has received a scholarship offer from Kentucky, his guardian confirmed to the Herald-Leader.
Edward Smith said that Coach John Calipari called with the offer Sunday, which was the first day that college coaches were allowed to directly contact prospects from the class of 2016. Smith said they also spoke to UK assistant coach Kenny Payne on Sunday.
Maker is considered the No. 1 overall player in the class by ESPN and is ranked No. 3 by Rivals, Scout and 247Sports.
The 7-footer from Sudan plays for the Carlisle School in Virginia, and he is considering a move to the class of 2015, which would mean he’d play only one more season of high school basketball before heading off to college. Smith recently told ZagsBlog that a decision on reclassification would probably be made around January.
Maker also has offers from Duke, Kansas, Louisville, Arizona, Indiana, Memphis and Georgetown, among others.
