Scout.com ranks Milwaukee center Diamond Stone as the No. 1 overall prospect in the class of 2015, but there has been some question over just how seriously he is being recruited by Kentucky.
Stone answered that Thursday, telling Scout national analyst Evan Daniels that UK has indeed offered him a scholarship. “They offered me and they are recruiting me hard. Real hard,” he told Daniels.
Coach John Calipari was in Philadelphia to start off the July recruiting period Wednesday and Thursday, and he watched Stone play during both sessions. The 6-foot-10 prospect is also a major target for Kansas, UConn, Wisconsin and several other top programs.
Kentucky got involved in Stone’s recruitment several months ago, but he has not mentioned UK in recent interviews. He and his family have not divulged much about his future plans.
Stone and fellow class of 2015 star Malik Newman — a top Kentucky target — have been open about their wish to play for the same college program. UK, UConn and Kansas are among the schools recruiting both players.
Daniels tweeted Thursday night that the Huskies seem to be in good shape with Stone…
It's still early & Diamond Stone certainly wouldn't tell me if he had a leader, but I like Connecticut's position. Kevin Ollie all over him.
