Las Vegas basketball star Ray Smith announced his commitment to Arizona on Sunday night, three days after suffering a torn ACL at the Adidas Unrivaled showcase in Chicago.
Smith — a 6-foot-7 prospect in the class of 2015 — has been one of the stars of the AAU/camp circuit so far this summer. He climbed up to No. 6 overall in the latest rankings from 247Sports, and UK assistant coach Kenny Payne contacted him a few days ago to express interest in his recruitment.
Louisville, Georgetown, UCLA and UNLV were among the other major programs aggressively pursuing Smith, who had scheduled an official visit to U of L for the fall. He is likely to miss his entire senior season with the knee injury.
Arizona Coach Sean Miller now has commitments from two five-star players in the class of 2015: Smith and shooting guard Justin Simon.
