Shooting guard Antonio Blakeney received a scholarship offer from Kentucky on Sunday. He was the fourth player from the class of 2015 to earn a UK offer since the beginning of the July recruiting period Wednesday.
Blakeney — a 6-foot-4 prospect from Orlando, Fla. — is ranked in the top 20 in the class by every major recruiting service. 247Sports ranks him the highest at No. 11 overall
Former NBA coach John Lucas watched Blakeney at the NBPA Top 100 Camp last month in Virginia and again at the LeBron James Skills Academy in Las Vegas over the weekend. Lucas tweeted Saturday that Blakeney is “the most explosive scorer in the 2015 class.”
UK Coach John Calipari and assistant coach Kenny Payne also watched Blakeney at the LeBron skills camp. Blakeney told Scout.com’s Evan Daniels that Calipari called him with the scholarship offer.
Kansas, Florida and Louisville are among the many programs that have already offered Blakeney, who has long been one of U of L’s top recruiting targets in the class.
Blakeney is the 12th player from the class of 2015 to receive a scholarship offer from Kentucky, but he joins Malik Newman as only the second guard in that category.
Diamond Stone, Brandon Ingram and Henry Ellenson also earned offers from Kentucky during the first week of the July recruiting period.
