Five-star point guard Isaiah Briscoe received a scholarship offer from Coach John Calipari while on an official visit to UK this week.
The offer was first reported by NJ.com.
Briscoe arrived on UK’s campus Sunday, coming directly from an official visit to UConn. He has two more official visits — to St. John’s and Missouri — scheduled for next month.
The 6-foot-3 prospect from New Jersey has said that he plans to wait until the spring before making his college decision, but that was before the offer from UK.
Calipari had an in-home visit with Briscoe earlier this month. A couple of days before that meeting, Roselle Catholic Coach Dave Boff spoke to the Herald-Leader about Briscoe’s timetable.
“If somebody were to come in and blow him away; Or if he were to go on a visit and fall in love with the place, then I don’t want to say he wouldn’t decide in the fall,” Boff said at the time. “But I think the plan right now is to wait until the spring. He was down to a final five, but I think he had so much success over the summer and was finally seen as a point guard – which he’s been working to show that part of his game. Nobody had really seen that.
“So when he started to be seen as a point guard and his recruitment changed a little bit, I think he decided to wait until the spring.”
Briscoe is now regarded by every major recruiting service as the No. 1 point guard in the class of 2015 and a top-15 overall prospect. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 6 overall player in the class.
Chicago shooting guard Charles Matthews is the only player who has committed to Kentucky for next year.
