Five-star combo guard Malik Newman traveled to Starkville on Saturday for an unofficial visit to Mississippi State. The Bulldogs hosted SEC West rival Auburn in a matchup of two of the top-3 teams in college football.
Newman’s father, Horatio Webster, was a standout basketball player for Mississippi State in the late 1990s. Newman told the Herald-Leader over the summer that he was rooting for the Bulldogs during the 2013-14 season and that his father wouldn’t mind seeing him end up there.
“He kind of favors them a little bit,” Newman said in July. “But he knows, at the end of the day, it’s still my decision.”
The 6-foot-3 prospect from Jackson, Miss., is considered the No. 1 guard in the class of 2015. He took an unofficial visit to Ole Miss last weekend and has mentioned the possibility of a trip to next week’s Big Blue Madness.
247Sports analyst Jerry Meyer is predicting Newman to Mississippi State on his “Crystal Ball” page. Most of the Crystal Ball picks are in favor of Kentucky.
