Canadian basketball star Jamal Murray announced Thursday night that he will not be coming to Lexington this weekend to compete with his CIA Bounce squad on the Nike EYBL circuit.
Murray, who has emerged in recent weeks as a top UK recruiting target, did not give a reason for missing the event at the Kentucky Basketball Academy. He was expected to take an unofficial visit to UK after the Nike EYBL games ended Sunday.
The 6-foot-5 prospect from Kitchener, Ontario missed the first EYBL session a couple of weeks ago to compete in the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Ore. He earned most valuable player honors in that showcase.
Murray, currently a recruit in the class of 2016, is considering a move to 2015 that would allow him to play college basketball next season. If he decides to reclassify, Kentucky would be considered one of the favorites in his recruitment. Oregon is among the other schools pursuing Murray, and coaches from that program visited his school in Canada on Wednesday.
DraftExpress.com already projects Murray as the No. 21 overall pick in next year’s NBA Draft.
