Apparently, five-star recruit Malik Monk likes to play basketball in the Bluegrass.
The Arkansas native averaged 25.2 points per game and made 44 percent of his three-point attempts in four games of Nike EYBL play this past weekend at the Kentucky Basketball Academy. He connected on 80 percent of his free throws (32 of 40).
Monk — a 6-foot-3 shooting guard — is ranked by Scout.com as the No. 4 overall prospect in the class of 2016.
UK Coach John Calipari has made Monk a major priority for next year, and he watched him play twice Saturday and once Sunday. In those three games, Monk averaged 27.0 points per game and made half of his three-pointers (9 of 18).
Monk’s Arkansas Wings squad won all three games attended by Calipari after dropping their Lexington opener Friday night, when the UK coach was recruiting in Indianapolis.
Arkansas Coach Mike Anderson was also a fixture at Monk’s games this weekend, and the Razorbacks and Wildcats are widely considered the top two schools in his recruitment.
