The winding recruitment of Caleb Swanigan took another turn Thursday night with the latest buzz indicating that Kentucky is again a player for the five-star basketball recruit.
CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported that UK is now a “legitimate landing spot” for Swanigan, who was considering the Cats before committing to Michigan State last week.
Many recruiting observers expected Swanigan to originally pick California. He made the surprise choice of Michigan State, then backed out of his pledge to the Spartans last month.
Purdue and California have been mentioned as possible frontrunners in the past few days, and now UK is seen as a potential destination. Duke and Arizona were also on his list of finalists before the Michigan State commitment.
UK could certainly use Swanigan, a 6-foot-9 McDonald’s All-American and the No. 13 overall prospect in the class of 2015, according to Scout.com. The Cats have Alex Poythress, Marcus Lee and Skal Labissiere set for their frontcourt for next season, but the addition of Swanigan would allow for more lineup opportunities.
There is no timetable for his final college decision.
