The North Carolina State basketball program is taking full advantage of its proximity to Rawle Alkins’ new high school.

Wolfpack Coach Mark Gottfried was at Word of God Academy in Raleigh on Monday to see Alkins — one of the top recruits in the class of 2016. N.C. State also visited Alkins at Word of God on Friday, his first day at the new school.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard is a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., but had to transfer for his senior year after exhausting his four years of varsity eligibility in New York. Alkins also took an unofficial visit to North Carolina on Sunday.

UK is among several other major programs that have extended scholarship offers to Alkins, who is ranked No. 14 overall in the class of 2016 by 247Sports.

N.C. State picked up a commitment from five-star point guard Dennis Smith Jr., last week and is also considered the favorite to land five-star power forward Edrice “Bam” Adebayo, another North Carolina native.

UK Coach John Calipari visited Adebayo at his high school Monday.
