UK basketball commitment Wenyen Gabriel will not be able to attend Friday night’s Big Blue Madness festivities, his high school coach told the Herald-Leader on Tuesday.

Gabriel committed to Kentucky earlier this month and said at the time that he’d like to attend Madness, though he has already used his official visit to UK and a second trip would require him to pay all expenses himself.

The 6-foot-10 forward plays for Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Massachusetts.

Wilbraham & Monson Academy head coach Mike Mannix told the Herald-Leader that Gabriel is even more motivated to improve his game after his commitment to Kentucky. He was arguably the biggest breakout star of the summer and is now ranked by as the No. 10 overall prospect in the class of 2016.

UK will still have an impressive guest list for Madness, including class of 2016 commitment Sacha Killeya-Jones, as well as top targets De’Aaron Fox, Harry Giles and Malik Monk. Five-star center Marques Bolden is also expected to be in town for a visit.
