Harry Giles — the top basketball recruit in the class of 2016 — will announce his college decision Friday on the noon edition of ESPN’s SportsCenter.
The 6-foot-10 power forward from Winston-Salem, N.C., has narrowed his college list to Kentucky, Duke, Wake Forest and Kansas. ESPN and Scout.com both rank him as the No. 1 overall prospect in the senior class.
Giles suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in his season opener Tuesday night in a game attended by UK coaches John Calipari and Kenny Payne. The injury will require surgery, and Giles is expected to miss his entire senior season at Oak Hill Academy (Va.).
This is the second torn ACL for Giles, who suffered a devastating injury in his right knee two summers ago that included a torn MCL and meniscus. He missed his entire sophomore season due to that injury.
Scout.com’s Evan Daniels told the Herald-Leader on Wednesday that Duke remains the favorite in Giles’ recruitment despite the visit from Calipari earlier this week.
“I think Duke is still the frontrunner as we head into the final days of his recruitment,” he said.
