Five-star freshman Bam Adebayo will wear No. 3 for the Kentucky Wildcats next season, and fellow recruit Sacha Killeya-Jones will be No. 1, they announced Wednesday.
Adebayo — a 6-foot-9 power forward from North Carolina — wore No. 13 for his high school team, but that number was worn this past season by Isaiah Briscoe, who announced Wednesday that he will return to UK for a sophomore season.
Other famous No. 3s in UK history include Rex Chapman, Terrence Jones, Nerlens Noel and, most recently, Tyler Ulis.
Killeya-Jones will wear the No. 1 left behind by Skal Labissiere, who is heading to the NBA after one season at Kentucky. Other UK players who have worn No. 1 include Cliff Hawkins, Darius Miller, James Young and Devin Booker.
Incoming freshman walk-on and coach’s son Brad Calipari said Wednesday that he will wear No. 20 at UK next season. Another head coach’s son, Sean Sutton, also wore No. 20 at Kentucky.
Fellow freshman Wenyen Gabriel announced recently that he plans to wear No. 32 next season. De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk both wore No. 5 for their high school teams. Fox was No. 0 for his AAU team.
