The latest episode of national recruiting analyst Evan Daniels’ podcast, “The Sidelines,” was released Wednesday, and Daniels was joined by Scout.com colleague Brian Snow to talk about some of the top uncommitted prospects in the 2017 class.
UK targets Mohamed Bamba and Kevin Knox are obviously on that list — both are top-10 players in the Scout.com rankings — and the two analysts were more bullish on UK’s chances with Bamba than Knox.
Snow said that he’s hearing the most buzz for UK and Texas for Bamba right now. His other two finalists are Duke and Michigan. The 7-footer from Harlem, N.Y., is close to UK signee Quade Green — his teammate from the Nike circuit — but he was also coached by Shaka Smart with the Team USA U18 squad last summer.
“You hear a lot about those two schools, but honestly with Bamba, nothing would surprise me,” Snow said. Daniels agreed that, if he had to handicap a top two for Bamba right now, it would be UK and Texas.
Knox — a 6-9 forward from Tampa, Fla. — has narrowed his list of schools to UK, Duke, Florida State and North Carolina.
“I think we’d both be surprised if it’s Kentucky, just given Jarred Vanderbilt, PJ Washington, Hamidou Diallo, the guys that they have in the class,” Snow said. “It would seem unlikely that that’s a fit.” Snow went on to say that he thinks Duke and FSU are the current co-favorites, with UNC third in the recruitment.
“I agree with how you handicapped it,” Daniels replied.
The latest episode of “The Sidelines” podcast leads with Xavier Coach Chris Mack (the discussion of top uncommitted 2017 recruits starts at the 36-minute mark).
