As expected, UK quarterback commitment Jarren Williams made a big jump in the latest 247Sports football recruiting rankings for the class of 2018.
Williams is now considered the No. 145 overall prospect in the 2018 class, moving up 111 spots after his stellar performance at The Opening Finals in Oregon last week.
“The big takeaway with Jarren is there are very few holes in his game,” 247Sports scouting director Barton Simmons told the Herald-Leader after that event. “It’s hard to find a weakness. There are other guys that are better in any one category, but he’s not deficient anywhere. I felt like he was one of the best quarterbacks there, in terms of his ability to digest the offenses they were being asked to learn. In terms of his comfort level, going through his reads and progressions. And his accuracy and control over the position.”
Williams is now the No. 7 dual-threat QB nationally, though he considers himself to be a pass-first quarterback, and Simmons acknowledged last week that his game better fits the “pro-style” description. There are only 12 quarterbacks with a higher 247Sports rating than Williams, and he’s the highest-ranked QB from the 2018 class that has committed to a Southeastern Conference school.
Ohio offensive lineman Darian Kinnard moved up 68 spots and is now the No. 100 recruit nationally in the 247Sports rankings, making him UK’s highest-rated commitment so far for the 2018 class. Michigan lineman Marquan McCall is No. 122 overall, and Ohio linebacker Xavier Peters is No. 141 overall.
McCall and Peters are both committed to Kentucky.
Ohio wide receiver L’Christian “Blue” Smith is No. 189 overall in the updated 247Sports rankings. Smith is arguably UK’s top remaining target in the 2018 class, and he’s expected to choose either Ohio State or Kentucky.
