Five-star class of 2018 point guard Darius Garland tweeted Sunday afternoon that he has received a scholarship offer from Kentucky.
Garland — a 6-foot-1 prospect from the Nashville area — is the No. 1 point guard and No. 8 overall player in the class of 2018, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He has several other major scholarship offers, and Duke and Vanderbilt are the two schools that have generated the most buzz in his recruitment in recent weeks.
Other top stars in the class of 2018 have also expressed a desire to play alongside Garland, who averaged 16.8 points and 4.8 assists per game on the Nike circuit this spring and summer. Marvin Bagley and Cameron Reddish — two major UK targets — both specifically mentioned possibly teaming up with Garland in college during interviews at Nike’s events in South Carolina this week.
UK is expected to receive a commitment from five-star point guard Immanuel Quickley sometime this fall, and freshman point guards Quade Green and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are not projected as one-and-done picks following this season.
